California!

After many years of dreaming, it’s finally time to put plans into action. I’ve always wanted to move to California. Beautiful weather, plenty of ocean for boating and fishing, motorcycles, drop tops, omg, I could go on… and trust me I will.

I’ve been living in Atlanta, Georgia for the past three years since graduating from the University of Florida. Out of college I was offered a dream job: Android development for State Farm (a Fortune 50 Insurance company) with lots of opportunity to work on innovative new technology. The team I started with were building the apps for Agent Mobility. — blah blah blah talk about work shit —

— talk about VR and the hackathons, and the maker faire, Google I/O —

A few months ago, one of my closest friends moved in with my roommate Sam Richards and I. Rich was living in Gainesville since we attended University of Florida together. We shared a townhouse off 20th ave for two years. Since he’s moved in, we’ve been planning our escape. We weren’t really sure where we were going, but we knew we were going somewhere. We started looking into Colorado. My little sister recently moved to Golden to continue her Material Science Engineering studies at the Colorado School of mines by getting a PHD in Metallergy. The biggest issue with Golden, Denver, or Boulder is that they have no navigatable rivers near by for sailboating which is a long term goal of mine. We started loooking at Grand Junction since it was near the Colorado River but we decided that we’d prefer the ocean. Plus that would have been hours away from Casey in Golden and my friends in Denver. California is back in play, but where?

We’re shooting for San Diego. Everyone tells us that it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world. The weather stays between 60 and 78 and it only rains a few days a year. It’s not as ridiculous as San Francisco is as far as rent either. It’s essentially Atlanta but with all the lifestyle options I’d prefer. So it’s been decided. After three years of “Farm Life”, on Monday June 26th, 2018, I resigned from my position as Lead Android developer. What a day it was.

Everything is falling into place. I had a hitch installed on my 2011 BMW 550i yesterday at Uhaul in downtown Atlanta. The 5x8 Uhaul trailer is scheduled for pick up for Monday, July 16th at 10 am. The service elevator at my complex (1280 West) is booked for the morning. I’ve been packing for a week now and I’m starting to run out of things to pack!

My birthday is in five days. 26 is going to be one hell of a year.
